Ann Marie Holowchuk, 71, of Port Reading, died Friday, August 3, 2012 at Raritan Bay Medical Center Perth Amboy. She was born in Wilkes -Barre Pennsylvania and was a long time resident of Carteret before moving to Port Reading. Ann Marie was a parishioner of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Carteret and was a retired School Crossing Guard for the Borough of Carteret. She loved her trips to Atlantic City and spending winters in Naples Florida.
Predeceased by her parents Thomas and Mary Reilly, Ann Marie is survived by her beloved husband of 47 yrs Michael Holowchuk, her loving son Robert Holowchuk and his wife Tracy, her loving daughter Susan Holowchuk, her cherished grandchildren Tanya, Ryan and Johnny and her brother John Hawk.
Funeral is Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at 9am at Synowiecki Funeral Home, 56 Carteret Ave., Carteret, 9:30 am mass at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Carteret followed by burial in Rosehill Cemetery Linden. Rose Marie Darab, 94, passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2012 in California. She was born in Coello, Illinois on September 8, 1917 to John & Theresa Ur. She lived in Carteret for many years where she and her husband Julius owned Darab's Tavern. In the 1970's they retired to Cape Coral, Florida. There Rose was a volunteer at the Kidney Foundation for over 32 years, and also a member of The Hungarian Club, St. Andrews Council of Catholic Women and the Columbiettes of Carteret.
Rose Marie is predeceased by her husband, Julius in 1984; her daughter, Veronica Pearson; her daughter-in-law, Julie Darab and son-in-law, Victor Kazio. She is survived by her son, Eugene and his wife, Judy of Oakley, California; her daughter, Christine Kazio of Carteret; her son, Thomas of Germany; her son, Julius (Butch) and his wife, Diane of Cape Coral, Florida; her 18 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
The Funeral will be on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at 9 AM at Synowiecki Funeral Home, 56 Carteret Avenue in Carteret. Liturgy will be at 9:30 AM at St. Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church in Carteret. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Hungary Church Cemetery in Fords. Visiting hours will be on Monday, from 6 PM to 9 PM. Parastas will be Monday at 7:30 PM.
Nicholas Zubenko, 63, of Barnegat, formerly of Carteret, passed away on Monday, Feb. 6, 2012. Nick graduated from St. Mary's High School, Perth Amboy in 1966. Drafted into the U.S. Army in 1968, he was honorably discharged as sergeant, 12th Cavalry with the U.S. Army. He went on to attend and graduate from Middlesex County College, Delehanty Institute of Technology and Linden Flight School. Nick served as a flying officer/captain for the New Jersey State Police Association. He then graduated from Middlesex County Police Academy and went on to serve 25 years in he Carteret Police Department, retiring as a lieutenant. Nick went on to breed and train thoroughbred racehorses. Nick was an honorary member of the Ukrainian American Citizens Club, lifelong member of Disabled Veterans of America and member of the American Legion Carteret Post 263.
Nick is survived by his loving wife, Diane Zubenko; one son, Gerald Zubenko; two loving sisters, Maria Norman and her husband, Greg, and Lydia Bobel and her husband, Thomas; one loving brother, Jerry Zubenko Jr. and his wife, JoAnn; two goddaughters/nieces, Trista Zubenko and Elizabeth Herman, along with other nieces and nephews.
A Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 719 Roosevelt Ave., Carteret. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society . Arrangements under the care of Synowiecki Funeral Home, Carteret.
Sophia Singura, 89 of Carteret passed away Friday, Sept. 28th at the Riverton Rehabilitation Center, Rahway. Born in the Ukraine, Sophia lived in Poland before moving to Carteret 48 years ago. Retiring in 1985, she was employed as a maintenance worker with Building Services in New York for over twenty years. She was a member of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Carteret.
Sophia is predeceased by her loving husband Stefan in 1997; her son Nestor Singura in 1983, and her siblings Jan, Maria, Ludvika, and Ola.
Sophia is survived by her children Zenon Singura and his wife Lydia of Carteret, Walter Singura and his wife Margaret of South Amboy, Stefanie Kochan and her husband Orest of Allentown PA, Stanley Singura and his wife Lucy of Bridgewater; a sister Fila of Ukraine; 11 grandchildren Robert, Diane, Sophia, Tanya, Thomas, Christine, Andrea, Corissa, Jennifer, John, Matthew, and 13 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday 9:00am from the Chubenko Funeral Home 625 Port Reading Ave., Port Reading followed by a 9:30am Funeral Liturgy from St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Carteret followed by interment at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.

Stephen Tkaczyk, 86, of Carteret passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at the JFK Medical Center, Edison. Born in Boguscha Ukraine, Stephen lived in Carteret for the past sixty three years. Retiring in 1982 he was employed as an operator with FMC in Carteret for many years. He was a member of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Carteret, the Ukrainian American Citizens Club, St. Mary's Choir, and various other Ukrainian organizations.
Stephen is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Jaroslawa (Zaparaniuk) Tkaczyk; two sons, Bohdan Tkaczyk and his wife Doris of Carteret, Taras Tkaczyk of Carteret; three grandchildren, Larissa Cruz and her husband Angel, Amy Tkaczyk, and Sara Tkaczyk.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, 9:00am from the Chubenko Funeral Home, 625 Port Reading Ave., Port Reading followed by a 9:30am Funeral Liturgy from St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Carteret with interment to follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Frank Ivanitski, 67, formerly of Carteret, of Port Lavaca, Texas died on Monday, Oct. 15, 2012. He was a graduate of Carteret High School and a Veteran of the United States Air Force. Frank was a manager with ISP Technologies for 29 years and worked at various ISP Plants throughout the United States, his last being the Port Neches, Texas Facility.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Ivanitski of Port Lavaca, TX.; his son, Lee Ivanitski of Stewartsville, NJ; his daughter, Amy Vanhooser of Port Lavaca, TX; his daughter-in-law, Michalina and his two grandchildren, Ally and Nik Ivanitski of Stewartsville, NJ; his sister, Arline Connor and his brother-in-law, Bruce of Flemington, NJ.
The Funeral will be on Friday, October 19, 2012 at 9 AM at Synowiecki Funeral Home, 56 Carteret Avenue in Carteret with a 9:30 AM Mass at St. Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church in Carteret.
