ANNA HADYNIAK
AGE: 90 CARTERET

Anna Hadyniak, 90, passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2010 at her home in Freedom, Maine.

Anna was born on December 6, 1919 in Carteret. She thought she'd be a lifelong resident of Carteret, but after 86 years she moved to Maine to live with her beloved sister-in-law, Sallyann Hadyniak. Her Maine family included her nephew Chuck, niece Lynn, and great twin nephews (the loves of her life) Tyler and Kyle. Anna prayed to live long enough to see them graduate from high school, but was cut short by one year. God had different plans for her.

Known as "ChaChe Ann", which means "Aunt Ann" in Ukrainian, Anna was predeceased by her parents, Maria and Wasyl Hadyniak; sister, Sophie and brothers, John, Joseph ("Slim"), Theodore ("Teddy"), Charles ("Wassey") and nephews, Peter and Michael, and great-nephew Keith. She also leaves behind a beloved nephew, John and his wife Joan, of Carteret; niece, Cathy and her husband Jack Burns of Toms River; a nephew, Joseph and his wife Lisa of Matawan; five great nieces, two great-nephews and four great-great-nephews. Anna's extended family is Gisela Qualtrough of Waterville, Maine and Norman Qualtrough of Fairfax, Virginia.

Anna retired in 1990 from Merck's Pharmaceutical in Rahway after 42 years of service as a Lab Technician. In 2005 she decided to move to Maine and spend the rest of her retired years in the peace and quiet of the country. She shared her final years with her Maine family and attended all of Tyler and Kyle's school functions, (concerts, etc.) and all of their sport activities such as baseball, football and hockey (which were her favorite). She became "ChaChe Ann" to all of their friends as well. She made new friends here in Freedom, attending many of the social events and town meetings, and did some volunteer work for the Freedom Town Office. She filled her days with doing what she loved most--crocheting, reading, watching TV, shopping, eating out in different restaurants, and working on puzzle books. She also enjoyed sitting on the back porch in a rocking chair watching the different birds come to the feeders and she always chased away the squirrels that tried to get to the bird seed. Looking beyond the feeders and trees she saw the valley and the Western Mountains in Maine. She considered herself really retired, loved and enjoyed it. Anna lived a full and long life, was truly blessed, and had no regrets. She did a lot of traveling to Europe, Canada, many of the states in the U.S., and different islands. When she became of age, she joined the Senior Citizen Club in Carteret and was very active going on day trips to Conn., New York, and Pa. She went line dancing three times a week, and worked at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, where she was a parishioner, on their biggest fundraiser, making pirogies. She loved living in the peace and quiet of the country. It was a whole new world for her in Maine and she was very happy. She will be sadly missed by those whom she loved and who loved her back dearly.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Rumpf Funeral Home. A memorial mass will be held at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 719 Roosevelt Avenue, Carteret at 9:30 AM on Saturday June 26, 2010. Interment will follow at the Ukrainian Assumption Cemetery in Hopelawn.

Donations in Anna's memory may be made to Kno-Wal-Lin Hospice, 170 Pleasant Street, Rockland, Maine 04841.
