On Friday, August 24th, 2012 the Ukrainian Community in Carteret celebrated Ukrainian Independence Day with the raising of the Ukrainian Flag. Although Carteret Mayor Daniel J. Reiman could not be present, his representative delivered a short speech and read a Proclamation recognizing August 24th as Ukrainian Independence Day in Carteret. Afterwards, a prayer was offered by Father Vasyl Vladyka, Pastor of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church .
During the raising of the Ukrainian flag, those present sang "Sche Ne Vmerla Ukraina" as well as "God Bless America". Click on the pictures to see a larger version.
On Saturday, January 19th, 2013 the parishes of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church and St. Demetrius Ukrainian Orthodox Church will hold their annual Malanka Celebration. The Malanka will he held at St. Demetrius Banquet Center, 691 Roosevelt Ave., in Carteret, NJ. We are conveniently located just blocks from Exit 12 of the NJ Turnpike. There is ample off-street free parking available.
Music, both in Ukrainian and English, will be provided by the Fata Morgana Band. Price of admission includes a sumptuous buffet dinner, an open bar, midnight champagne toast as well as hats and horns. Doors open a 6:00 PM. Dinner will be served at 7:00 PM. Dancing is from 8:30 PM. Bring your dancing shoes!

On Sunday, June 17, 2012, St. Mary's Church will be holding its annual Father's Day Picnic. The picnic will begin at 1:00 PM and will be held on the church grounds rain or shine. The picnic menu will include home cooked dishes such as holubtsi, varenyky, chicken, countless salads and barbecued burgers and dogs. As if that weren't enough, there will be variety of desserts as well.
So pray for good weather and get your tickets now! Tickets are available from Parish Council members and are $5.00 for adults and children under 10 are free. As always, donated dishes are welcome and a sign-up sheet is located in the church vestibule.
Those who attended last year's picnic will attest to having a great time so save the date and come on down. We would also appreciate volunteers to help set-up and clean up afterwards.
